I’m going to try out this new series of daily little blurbs. I love sharing about my life on my terms (learning not to sell my soul for what I consider to be the greater good), but I love writing and sharing stories. I went on a notoriously bad date a few weeks ago and my takeaway is how boring some people can be. As I was complaining to my myriad of friends about it, I couldn’t help but think that I see, text or call with probably 5 friends outside of my family close to every day and we never run out of things to talk about. If I’m meeting you on a first date, how do you not have a fun story or two locked and loaded? I digress.
The purpose of this series is two-fold. I like sharing about my life, and I love telling stories - it’s self-serving, but I also hope that people like reading about it too. To me, my life is normal just like anyone else who lives within their own life thinks their life is normal. I can zoom out and recognize that my life may be atypical, but I am also surrounded by many people who have particular lives. My other purpose to this series is that I’ve done a lot work in the last few months on myself and I feel like I’ve done nothing with my life. Again, I can zoom out and see the achievements and accomplishments, but in between those moments feel like a blank space even though I know they are not. I’m writing these little blurbs as a reminder and something to look back on - the little things that make up a life, and the funny stories that make a life worthwhile. I’ve never been proud of my life, I’ve talked before about a void in my life and the constant need to fill it, and I want to be able to look back on my life and be proud of it outside of the big things, accomplishments and achievements. Not every day is wonderful or life-altering. I want to share my perspective on things that come up - big and little.
I read a thing a few weeks that said for people who don’t feel safe within themselves, try introducing yourself and your life to yourself again - say what you are doing, give them a room tour, talk about your passions like it’s to someone else, but it’s to yourself. And I thought - I want that, but for my life. I want to introduce myself to my life again. I do so much and enjoy it but when I look back, I’ve missed or forgotten so many of those moments. This is hopefully a little collection of them all.
I hope my weekly little recaps are like sitting down for a catch-up with a friend over coffee on a Sunday, and I hope these little anecdotes of a normal life (for me) inspire you to take stock of your life, your moments, your wins, and savour them a little more.
TTYS,
RS
